Nello L. Teer, Jr., eldest son of Nello, Sr. was born in Durham in 1914.  Nello literally grew up in the construction business by his father’s side.  Studied briefly engineering at the University of North Carolina and married Dorothy Scribner Foster of New York.  With the deepening depression and a daughter on the way Nello dropped out of school to work, selling autos and operating successfully a gas station, proving himself a capable man in the eyes of his father.  In 1938 Nello was hired as a Field Superintendent and worked his way to presidency in 1952. Nello, Jr. led the company into the foreign arena.  He became the only man to hold the highest offices of the American Road Builders Association (ARBA), the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), and the International Road Federation (IRF).  Nello and Dorothy raised four children in Durham.  Following the death of Dorothy in 1976, Nello married Ethel Wyngaarden in 1978.  After his retirement in 1982, Nello Jr. remained active in civic projects and professional associations until his death in 1996.
